Autism Seizure Treatment Survey Now Online – Parents Urged to Provide Data

Survey aims to assess treatment efficacy and possible side effects

In January 2009 ARI held a think tank on seizures, and in May 2009 Autism One held a related think tank on seizures.  As a follow-up to those, Dr. Richard Frye is working with the attendees on a Consensus Paper on Seizures in Autism and How to Treat Them.

If your son/daughter (or you) suffers from seizures, we ask you to fill out a survey form created by Dr. Richard Frye with the help of Prof. James Adams, Science Coordinator of ARI/Defeat Autism Now.  We think that this very detailed form will provide a much richer understanding of the efficacy and possible side effects of current treatments for seizures. Autism Vaccine Complaint Movie: “Selective Hearing, Brian Deer and the GMC” (CLICK HERE TO WATCH THE MOVIE)

By Mark Hawkings

In light of the PPC ordering the Times Newspaper to remove Brian Deer’s latest material from its website (HERE), I thought it would be a good time to write about the film “Selective Hearing, Brian Deer and the GMC” and my involvement in its making….

The film has been ignored by the UK press despite a copy being sent to every major news editor.

To set the scene we need to go back two years to the opening day of the GMC. I was there with my wife Lara and members of the UK Treating Autism Charity, supporting the doctors and also (in my mind at the time the more important task) talking to the press about how recovery is possible.

We had our first encounter with Brain on his return from lunch with the MP Dr Evan Harris. Brian had trouble with the front door at the GMC, he pushed the wrong door and rather comically bumped his whole body into it. There was a large cheer from the crowd as Brian skulked inside a bit red faced.

My mother had a saying, when as a naughty child I would trip or fall whilst up to no good “THE DEVIL DID THAT” she would say. This lit up in my head like a neon sign.

Remember me telling you guys about my brother’s wife being preggers?  How could you forget, right?  I mean, I was completely over the moon that day. But not because my brother’s wife was pregnant, no… I had known that for months.  And not to imply I wasn’t thrilled about the baby, I was/am.

No, I was over the moon that day because of my, now infamous, David Kirby’s Latest Horror Story post, which lead to my David Kirby Day!, a day that is now etched in my mind forever.  And yes Kim, I still get light headed when I think about it.  Pretty dorky huh?

Anyway, so the months have passed and my cutie-patootie sister-in-law has finally popped the pup! (more…)

Front and Center: Follow-Up on Rep. Maloney’s Autism-Vaccine Briefing

Managing Editor’s Note: Many people worked hard to make this post possible. Thank you to David Kirby and Mark Blaxill, Kelli Ann Davis of Generation Rescue, John Gilmore of Autism Action Network and several others. Please read the post carefully, there’s a call to action. It requires some thought and will take some time. Our kids are worth it.

On Opening The Floodgates:

Saturday, October 4th, 2008

I was invited by Kim Stagliano to write a piece for Age of Autism regarding the comments Charlie has made about what autism is like for him.  Initially I was thrilled… I mean, who wouldn’t want to be published on Age of Autism!?!?  It’s like finding the freaking golden ticket!

But, as I began working on the piece, I found I continually came up with other tasks to complete.  I was confused.  This was (is!) a big deal for me.  Age of Autism is… well… I’ll just tell you what I told Kim:  Age of Autism has been my companion through some very dark times.  It has been a beacon of light in an otherwise very dark tunnel.  I have met some very cool people on AoA, I’ve learned some lessons, I’ve laughed, I’ve cried, and I’ve yelled in anger.  So how could it be that I was given the honor of being published on my favorite site; but, trimming my toenails seemed to be more important?  Sickness.  That is what it was. David had just started speaking at the briefing.  My cell phone started to ring.  It was a 202 number so I answered it.

“Hi Jeanne.  This is —- calling from Congressman —–’s office.  I just wanted to ask if the room number had been changed for the autism briefing?”

“Not that I know of… did you go to room 210?”

“Yes, but there must be a budget meeting going on because the room is packed…”

“That is the autism briefing!  The room is packed because there were over 130 RSVPs.”

“Ohhh… okay.”

“Hurry. Get down there now. Mr. Kirby just started speaking, you still have time.  You don’t want to miss this briefing! It’s going to be historical!”

“Okay. Thanks!”

On The Eve of The Maloney/Kirby/Blaxill Briefing

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

I posted the following quote on Age of Autism.  I thought it was fitting on the eve of such an important, monumental, and historical moment in our lives.  I can hardly make it through this one without getting choked up.  It was written for us, the moms and dads of children with autism, it must have been… it’s just so perfect.  Enjoy.  Savor.  And don’t you dare miss the Autism One broadcast tomorrow!!  (HERE’S THE LINK):

There was madness in any direction, at any hour. You could strike sparks anywhere.

There was a fantastic universal sense that whatever we were doing was right–that we were winning. And that, I think, was the handle. That sense of inevitable victory over the forces of old and evil. Not in any mean or military sense–we didn’t need that. Our energy would simply prevail. We had all the momentum. We were riding the crest of a high, and beautiful wave.

So now, less than five years later, you can go up on a steep hill….and look…. And with the right kind of eyes, you can almost see the high watermark–that place where the wave finally broke, and rolled back.”
